Grant Writing

Our grant writing staff are gifted and seasoned professionals with decades of experience in many topic areas, from health and social conditions to business plan development. We get to know your organization and team members’ programmatic specific needs. We work with your team to provide exceptional grant writing deliverables that meet your needs that are both on budget and on-time.

We have expertise in a variety of grant writing styles, which vary depending on the need. For instance, grant writing for capital project requests differ considerably from programmatic or general operating requests.

If your organization is inclined, we are prepared to submit your grant applications. We have developed a brief but essential guide for clients seeking application assistance that minimizes the use of your organization’s valuable time and effort. We employ a method of doing so that also preserves your organization’s voice and ownership of the grant writing.

Our grant services staff works with you every step of the way. We are responsive to your needs and budgets. It is our aim to ensure that your organization not only continues to survive but thrives in the ever-changing grant-funding landscape.

Federal And State Grants

Public funding opportunities differ from private ones. They also differ based on each level of government. As such, our approach to researching and applying to these opportunities also differs.

Federal grants are published through www.grants.gov as well as other publicly available grant databases. Federal grants require much attention to detail and, like state grants, are bureaucratic in nature. Indeed, there are many forms that must be completed, signed, and sometimes even notarized. We work closely with our clients to ensure that all materials are prepared in an accurate and timely fashion. Using the federal grants portals is also challenging and requires patience and know-how, both of which our team possesses.

State grants are similarly published through an electronic grant database and can be viewed at www.commbuys.com. Like federal grants, state grants require considerable attention to detail and often come and go quite quickly. Therefore, it is imperative that applications are mobilized and applied to as swiftly as possible.

Local grants are less predictable but equally valuable. Typically, local government grants are geared toward nonprofit organizations, but there are occasions when for-profit businesses are also eligible to apply. We monitor local government websites to remain up to date on each of the pertinent municipality’s grant cycles, ensuring that we identify opportunities for your projects and programs in a timely and reliable way.

Our grant services staff regularly monitors each of these public funding types to ensure that we keep you abreast of the offerings and have ample time to apply.

Foundation Grants for Nonprofits

Charitable foundation grants are one of our specialties. These grants are often provided through family foundations, passed on from generations to generations. They also include “upstarts” that are organized to advance specific causes and alleviate social ills. Still further, there are social entrepreneurial foundations that reallocate for-profit revenues gained with the aim of making the world and its populations a better place.

We appreciate that this type of grant is generally less bureaucratic, moves more quickly, and requires that fewer hoops be jumped through. However, not all charitable foundations operate on the same giving cycle, which is largely dependent upon their board meeting schedule, and can take awards upwards of months to be made.

Most often charitable foundations only give to nonprofit (i.e., 501(c)3) organizations. This is due to the fact that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) permits them to receive tax deductions for awards made to nonprofits. We have observed that in recent years alternatively incorporated organizations have also been eligible to apply for charitable foundation funds, such as cemeteries and others that hold their own unique tax statuses. Some foundations are also giving to for-profit entities. We remain abreast of charitable foundation opportunities that are open to all sorts of nonprofit and for-profit organizations.
